Journey to San Leon

In historic downtown Sanford, Florida, it's been decades since a new residential development has been built. And for Lakeview Oak principal Dan Matthews, it was an exhaustive search to find the perfect location among the tree-lined brick streets for the company's inaugural project.
The San Leon is a mixed-use, three-story building with 10 modern residences and ground floor retail, wrapped in 19th-century inspired brick architecture, that will be completed in Summer 2021.
"I spent the better part of a year scouting out many of Central Florida's historic small towns looking for a great location that combined historic architecture, strong local businesses, walkability, and charm . . . and I found the perfect site," explains Matthews.
The Sanford Avenue property was once the site of the San Leon Hotel, which survived the Great Sanford Fire of 1887, but was eventually razed between 1912 and 1917 and has been vacant since.
Now, more than 100 years later, Lakeview Oak is poised to present the San Leon as the newest addition to the historic district. The modern new construction will blend seamlessly with the historic charm as the new home to both residents and local businesses.
